When introducing a new topic to students, it is recommended that it's application to the real world be shown.    

 

As an alternative to taking students outside (and this should be done from time time) the videos bring the

outside world to the student. They are effective even if just viewed on their own but getting students to write

down responses on specially designed worksheets is more beneficial. 

 

Clips can be viewed using the Windows Media Player and have an advantage that they can be paused so that

various relationships can be explored.

               

As time passes more and more will be added to this page.

  The video below shows one application of about 100 excellently produced virtual manipulatives from the (US) National Library of Virtual Manipulatives.

The (YouTube) clip shows an enlargement and a reduction of a square through the origin. To keep the file size small so that the video runs smoothly, the picture quality is naturally a little poor - but one gets an idea of how it works.
